The Sleepy Hollow Loop

I love to run. I'd forgotten this. In between prego bellies and newborn dazes I remember. I love to run. My favorite right now, the Sleepy Hollow Loop. It's a short run. Through Brattin Woods, down Lake Lansing Rd through the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood and back.

I didn't even want to go tonight. What I wanted to do was finish making dinner, get my kitchen in order and clean the whirlwind that is my living room at the end of the day. Just settle my house. Settle my day. Settle my mind.
But my sweet sweet David insisted. He took the measuring cup from my hand mid scoop and the baby from my hip mid wail and shooed me out the door. My husband is a stud. (...and in his head I know he's figuring out how this can be a one to one trade for fantasy football, intramural soccer and early morning basketball).
So I knotted up my asics and I was off. After two breaths of misty Michigan air and four tromps of sneaker on pavement I remembered. Again. I love to run. I love to be by myself for a minute. Hear my breath. I love to think about the day, the boys, the leaves. I love to not think. Let my head empty and slow down.
When I'm done I still need to settle my living room and kitchen but my mind and my day are settled.

What do you do to clear your head? snuggle you down? relax?

I think we are the same on this one, nothing does it for me like a good run. I love to run even more so now then before. I really love to run in the fall when its not hot and not cold and you can just let your mind go.
Right now I'm training for a half marathon in January we shall see if I can make it, I have never ran that far! Do you remember those crazy days of waking up at 6 in the morning in the freezing cold running our 3 miles, I'm still so impressed with us! Oh and also remember the funny times we had to stop at random peoples houses.. hehe

Running definitely doesn't clear my head! Instead, I fill my head with evil thoughts about how much I hate to run! Still, I do find exercise and time alone are great opportunities to clear the mind. I'm always envious of runners when I see them out and about. Fortunately, I've been able to access that through biking instead. Similar enjoyment, but much easier on a fat man's knees!

Congrats on getting out the door to run. I love the feeling of running once you get moving...its just getting moving that is so hard to do! There are so many other things standing in the way.

I'd gladly trade in the asics and hard pavement for goggles, a swimcap, speedos, and shaved legs.

Okay, maybe only 1 out of those 4 things (I'll leave it to you to guess which...) but, yep, I love to swim! I hate running. Shin splints, you know.

Wow, I didn't know you were a runner. How far do you go? Running is one of my challenges, but something I would like to over come. Getting started is the hardest part for me to, but once I'm into it... it becomes addicting. My favorite memories of running are actually on the track at Olympis High School (didn't Dave go there?) as the sun was setting. I'm a little lost as were to run around here. Maybe you can give a few pointers...or even go with me. Have a great day!

What a beautiful picture! I have LOVED the days when Adam has shooed me out the door to get some fresh air, it is so hard to unwind from the day, but getting outside is such a way to help!
