Every time a holiday comes around, it's so fun to decide how we're going to do it. What do we want to do for Easter? What does Thanksgiving look like to you? Sometimes we're preserving classic traditions, sometimes we're renovating them. And sometimes we're building new ones from the ground. We have a handful that I think will stick with us and we have another handful that need that big wrecking ball.
This Thanksgiving we started the morning with a 5K run, Dave played some football, we wrote down things we were thankful for, we cooked and then we had a BEAUTIFUL dinner with our family away from family. Kim's homemade rolls, Rebecca's yummy yams and apples with caramel sauce, and of course the apple crumb pie were my favorites.

The 5 K was a new addition this year. We thought "Wouldn't this be a great Thanksgiving tradition to do as a whole family?" And it was great. My running Rebecca friend ran with me and Dave pushed the jogging stroller with the babies all bundled up. (And yes, he still beat us.) We felt great, we had fun. But then it started snowing wet wet snow, babies' hands were frozen and mascara was coming off in frozen clumps. As soon as those stroller wheels stopped, the kids were done. The freezing trek back to the car with the screaming babies pretty much decided against this tradition for the whole family....we'll just stick with the apple crumb pie.

Thanks for running with me Noah. You're a champ! Dad
You and Rebecca look beautiful in that picture. That is amazing that you ran in the cold snowy weather. I couldn't have done it.
Jessie, you have all of my respect. I, too, would stick with the pie!
I love that you added the detail of the frozen mascara clumps. You'd think I'd wear waterproof given the big storm out and all. Good run though...see you next year!:)
I love it.. I wish I could have ran with you.. we have so many 5k memories. This may be a better tradition for when the boys are just a bit older. My sister ran a turkey trot with her 3 oldest this year for the first time and they loved it! I'm a big fan of the pie too!
you crazy runners. I think it's pretty good that your kids made it as long as they did!
Cute photo!

Just out of curiosity, does Noah know you post to the blog and does he like to look at it?
Glad to hear that you reconsidered your original plan! Otherwise, you might have had something different to say about the pilgrims and Thanksgiving in the future! :-)
Cherice, I've tried to get Noah interested in the blog a couple times (especially when he doesn't want me to be on the computer at that moment) but he hasn't taken to it yet...
